Just Bee Counselling | York

Hello, my name is Lis and I’m a person-centred counsellor in York, UK offering neurodiversity-affirming support for adults. I am BACP registered and I offer counselling face to face, on video using Google Meet, telephone call or ‘walk and talk’ sessions in Rowntree Park.

I have a special interest in working with neurodivergence and I will work with you to make counselling as accessible as possible.

I offer a discount for booking four sessions in advance and a special rate for students.

Understanding your unique challenges

Many of my clients encounter similar challenges:

  • intense emotional reactions, for example to perceived rejection, criticism, or failure
  • sensory overload from their environment
  • navigating life while managing difficult emotions
  • cycles of burnout from the exhaustion of constant masking
  • core struggles with identity or sense of self, “not being enough” or conversely “being too much” or just feeling different

You don’t need any formal diagnosis. If you feel you process the world differently, then your unique perspective will be respected.

Why choose person-centred counselling?

Person-centred counselling is a well established approach that focuses on the individual. It can be very effective for a variety of issues. You can expect to be listened to actively and empathically, so you feel heard and understood. Above all, you will be valued as a unique individual, unconditionally and without judgement.

Be heard.  Be understood. Be valued.

Why is trust important?

The most important thing in counselling is trust. Trust is fundamental to the therapeutic relationship. Research shows good therapeutic relationships produce the best results.

One reason to know if you can trust a counsellor is to check they are a member of a recognised professional body. This will mean that they work within an ethical framework and are properly trained, qualified and insured. You can check my registration on the BACP website.

I am proud to be on the counselling team at Kyra Women’s Project, an independent charity based in York, supporting women to make positive changes in their lives. I’ve volunteered there since 2016.

“I felt truly heard, validated, and understood throughout my sessions. She created such a supportive and compassionate environment, and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a therapist. I only wish I had gone to see her sooner.”

Counselling is never easy but you made it as easy as it could possibly be”

I suppose i just want you to know (I think you already do) that I really was in my lowest, darkest place when we first started and I was also coming from a place of suspicion and mistrust but from the first session I felt so supported and encouraged and heard and valued. I’ve felt so supported by you and I still feel supported by you every day. Even though it was a very difficult time, meeting with you was always really wonderful and I’m deeply grateful. Thank you!!!

Our sessions allowed my experiences and perceptions of those experiences, to be validated and explored safely. I felt ‘held’ in a safe place which allowed me to explore some very challenging and emotive parts of my life and feelings. When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I bring to mind some of the work we did together and I am able to regulate myself more effectively. I have a better understanding of my triggers and responses.

Kate

Gave me the time and space to reflect on my experiences without judgement.

What is a discovery call?

A discovery call is a free 20 minute conversation where:

  • you can ask any questions you may have
  • we get a good idea whether we would like to work together
  • there is no commitment but if you choose, then you can book a trial session in the call

Be heard.  Be understood. Be valued.

How do I book a discovery call?

You can book an appointment online today.

The discovery call page has a calendar showing my availability so you can choose a slot that suits you. You’ll then get an email confirmation and I will call you at the time you have chosen.

Alternatively you can text or call me directly on 07808 494561, or email lis@justbee.org.uk. If you’d just like to book a counselling session straightaway, that’s absolutely fine.
