Just Bee Counselling | York
Hello, my name is Lis and I’m a person-centred counsellor in York UK offering counselling face to face, on video using Google Meet, telephone call or ‘walk and talk’ which is where you have the session while going for a walk in a park or other open space. I’m also happy to visit you in your own home if that works better for you.
I have a special interest in working with neurodivergent and disabled clients and I am willing to try to make any necessary adjustments to meet your needs and enable you to access Just Bee Counselling.
Why choose person-centred counselling?
Person-centred counselling is a well established approach in counselling that focuses on the individual and can be very effective for a variety of issues. I will listen actively and empathically to your needs so you will be heard and understood. Above all, I will value you as a unique individual, unconditionally and without judgement.
Be heard. Be understood. Be valued.
Trust – choosing the best counsellor
The most important thing is counselling is trust. Trust is fundamental to the therapeutic relationship. Good therapuetic relationships produce the best results.
One reason to know if you can trust a counsellor is to check they are a member of a recognised professional body. This will mean that they work within an ethical framework and are properly trained and qualified. I am with the BACP and you can check my registration on their website.
I am also on the counselling team at Kyra Women’s Project, an independent charity based in York that support women to make positive changes in their lives. I’ve volunteered there since 2016.
Talking to me is another good way to find out if you would like to work with me and that’s really easy to do because I offer a free discovery call
What are the benefits of a discovery call?
A discovery call is a free 20 minute telephone conversation where you can talk to me in confidence:
- I can explain what I can offer you
- you can ask any questions you may have
- we get a good idea whether or not we can work together
- I will always be honest with you so if I can’t work with you, I will say so and I may be able to refer you to somebody who might suit you better
- there is no commitment at this stage but if you decide you can trust me, you can make a booking to start counselling
Be heard. Be understood. Be valued.
How to book a discovery call
You can book an appointment for a free discovery call online today.
The discovery call online booking page has a calendar showing my availabilty so you can choose a slot that suits you. You’ll then get an email confirmation and I will call you at the time you have chosen.
Alternatively you could fill in the contact form and I’ll be in touch.
Curious? ... let's talk
A relaxed and informal 20 minute free chat, ask some questions, chose a time to suit you, no ongoing commitment, talk about your needs and how I can meet them
Working with difference – neurodiversity and physical challenges
I like to work with clients who are neurodivergent. I have autism in my family and I am not neurotypical myself. I believe in celebrating diversity and I want to be flexible and sensitive to individual needs, including those around physical disabilities.
I spent some years with a physical problem that left me in constant pain and unable to walk so I have insight into the challenges of living with disability.
I practice the person-centred approach which means that your needs are always my focus. You remain in control in deciding what is best for you. I’m the expert on therapy, you are the expert on you.
I offer a private counselling service at Just Bee Counselling but I am also proud to be a member of the amazing counselling team at Kyra Women’s Project in York.
Through acceptance and support you can build on your unique identity, experience personal growth and start to thrive, despite differences.
